Hello world!

March 19th, 2008

Welcome to my blog! This is my first post so I’m quite excited and I naturally want to bowl you over with my first thoughts on this blessed public holiday for our souls…

What can I say about today that you don’t already know. Well it’s Good Friday (you probably know this) and it’s snowing and cold here (you probably don’t know this)! Befitting weather you may think for us to remember the Lord’s truly once and still valid sacrifice that was completed when he was crucified at Golgotha.

And why should you want to be reminded of this you may wonder..?

The Lord suffered for “all” our sakes… to quote the NKJ Gospel according to Luke chapter 23, v. 46; …And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice. He said “Father, “into Your hand I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.

The good news for you all on Good Friday is that his sacrifice was not in vain and is just as valid as it ever was.  He didn’t need a couple of week’s holiday to recover after his “ordeal”either! No, he went straight into the realms of the dead to teach to all those souls; before and after the time of Noah, who had not received word of God’s great plan of salvation or had heard about the forgiveness of sins;  enabling everyone to overcome the gulf of spirtual dimensions that once held them captive.  The Lord still offers the same strength, hope and forgiveness through his living apostles today as he did then.

Good Friday for me is about taking stock of our actions and about recognising in how far we are prepared to hear, receive, acknowledge and follow the Lord’s teachings for our own good.  What turns Good Friday, the day of solemn rememberance into Easter Sunday, the day of eternal victory over death?  It’s not about “how” the Lord completed his sacrifice but “why” that is important.

It’s the belief and knowledge that the Lord knows what is best for us and in being able to relinquish our will to his, as he surrendered his will to God, for the sake of mankind. I believe it is the highest level of freedom to be committed to his everlasting Spirit!

God Bless.
